Incredible Hulk energizer protein shake

This has been my new favorite breakfast lately. Perfect on those days where you are tired and need a little kick in the pants to get you moving! Your green muscles may just burst through your shirt like the big green guy! My new routine that I have been loving lately is when I first get up drink a massive cup of lemon water (filled with sliced lemons/oranges and chopped ginger ) to give my body a good detox flush then follow it up a little bit later with this shake or a green smoothie-Yum!

Incredible Hulk energizer protein shake

3 cups almond or coconut milk

1 cup of blueberries (or strawberries)

3 soaked dates

2 tablespoons ground chia seeds

1-2 tablespoon cocoa powder

1 tablespoon spirulina powder

1 tablespoon hemp protein powder

2 tablespoon maca powder

2 teaspoons cinnamon

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 packet stevia (or 1-2 more soaked dates)

1 capsule probiotics (optional)

Raw lemon cupcakes with strawberry frosting

These would make great treats for a kids birthday celebration! All healthy real food ingredients Adding some chopped strawberries to the cupcake would be really good also! I am trying to start using only dates and stevia for sweeteners because of candida issues. Honey and maple seem to react similar to sugar in my body and create an environment for candida to have a party in my body! I think some my issues with the raw food diet are actually not the raw foods but candida issues. Since I started taking probiotics I have not noticed the weight gain and thinning hair as I did a few weeks ago. I actually feel like my hair has been growing faster since going raw a few weeks ago.

Raw lemon cupcake

1/3 cup +4 tablespoons ground sunflower seeds

4 tablespoons ground sprouted buckwheat groats

1/3 cup + 4 tablespoons ground coconut shreds

1/3 cup ground cashews

lemon juice of 2 lemons

2 1/2 tablespoons of lemon zest

1/3 cup coconut milk

10 soaked medjool dates

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

pinch of sea salt

strawberry frosting

1 1/2 cups strawberries

1-2 soaked medjool dates

1 tablespoon coconut milk

1 tablespoon cocoa butter or coconut oil melted

3 tablespoons ground cashews

a few drops of stevia (optional)

small pinch of sea salt (optional)

* Mix the cupcake ingredients together and put in cupcake papers ( I use the silicone reusable ones) and put in the dehydrator for a few hours.

* Blend/process the frosting ingredients and put in a pastry bag with decorative pastry tips and put the frosting on the cakes. Make sure the cakes are cooled off because if they are warm the frosting may start to melt. Also if you put the frosting in the refrigerator for an hour or so before using it will be more firm.

* Sprinkle with lemon zest optional. Enjoy! Makes 6 cupcakes.

Other foods that help tonify the kidney yang are black foods such as black beans, black sesame seeds, spirulina, shellfish, walnuts, cinnamon and ginger. Raw raspberry rose and white chocolate mousse cake

I am trying not to eat too many deserts that contain much fat but there is something about this combination I just couldn’t resist! We have a huge raspberry bush in our back yard that is starting to produce raspberries every day now so I will be eating tons of them in the next few weeks-Yum! I fell of my raw food wagon a few days ago because I’m starting to put on some weight and it seemed like my hair was starting to thin so I panicked and started eating some black beans and fish. I have always noticed my hair seems to get really healthy, shiny and thicker when I am eating a lot of black beans. I think it may be because it is high is the amino acid L-lysine which is good for hair growth and beans are a great protein source. I think I will go back on the raw but still include some black beans and some digestive aides like more probiotics to make sure I am absorbing my protein better. And also I will be increasing my fresh veggie juice intake. Any readers with some raw advice on these issues are appreciated! Leave comments below! I just did my first mud run yesterday and I had a BLAST! Who knew playing in the mud could be so much fun!!

Smoothie Tuesday! Spiced pear/beet/rhubarb smoothie

pear smoothie (74)

Well I am still on this raw diet and may stay on it forever! It would probably be tough in the winter though because I really like soups. I will have to experiment with some raw soups to keep me warm! Just because it’s raw doesn’t mean we have to eat it cold! I have discovered a great way to help prevent bloating and sluggish digestion from drinking too many smoothies. I have been swallowing (or chew it but your breath will be hideous!) about 1/2 clove of fresh garlic with my smoothie the past few days and it has helped my digestion/bloating so much! I really recommend it! I have also been trying out the 80/10/10 rule of eating which is 80% of your diet is carbs 10% percent is  fat and 10% is protein. This is so much different than what I have beet eating for the past 15 years or so. I am usually eating quite a bit of fat without even realizing it! Like olive oil on everything and coconut oil in deserts and for cooking with. It really adds up! Eating less fat has given me so much more energy and better digestion. If you think about it make sense that your body wouldn’t require so much fat if you were in the woods and surviving off of what you could forage. In the summer you would mainly be eating plants/fruits some nuts and seeds and occasionally insects or small animals. And in the winter you would be eating less green plants and more root vegetables, nuts and fatty fish etc.

Spiced pear/beet/rhubarb smoothie:

5 pears
2 stalks rhubarb
1/2 small beet
1/2 orange
2-3′ chunk ginger
large pinch cinnamon
large pinch turmeric

*add enough water to make it so you can blend it (about 1/3 to 1/2 blender full)

*add a handful of greens for a green smoothie!
